Do pets have allergies? The answer may be unexpected for many people but it’s a fact that yes, pets do suffer from allergies. This may sound even stranger that certain pet allergies, their symptoms and treatment are very much the same as in human beings. Having said that, pets are like family members to most people and their health issues also need to be properly taken care of as of any other member of the family.
The first and foremost question for the owner of a pet e.g. a cat or a dog is that how to detect what kind of allergy the pet is suffering from. Most pet owners don’t know how to do it. Same is the case with human allergies. The most common signs of pet allergy are itching and skin irritation. There may be several reasons for that like change in pet food, change of bed, or a new plant in the lawn etc. At this point, there is a decision to be made, whether the pet owner wants to treat the pet at home with self diagnosed medications or rightly seek the advice of a veterinary specialist. The answer lies in how much you love your pet. There may be cases where pet owner might succeed in finding the right solution for their pet’s allergy but this mostly happens with those types of pet allergies which are similar to human allergies. In other kinds of pet allergies, the results more often than not are negative and many cases another health issue for the is also started from here.
The doctor will ask question, strange, but true. When the pet owner rightly decides to consult the veterinary doctor, he should have all the information possible about the recent changes in the routine of the pet. The doctor’s mostly enquire that for how long the pet has been scratching a particular part of its body. Has the pet developed a skin rash on a particular part as a result of itching? Most doctors start the treatment after getting this initial information from the pet owner. The doctor may conduct some tests and then prescribe the appropriate medicine.
Taking the pet to a specialist not only helps it to recover soon from allergy but also prevents other family members from allergy threat. So pet owner should take timely notice of any prolonged itching, rashes or broken skin on any part of pet’s body and should take it to the veterinary doctor otherwise there is a serious threat to the family to be caught into an allergy or a disease which spread from diseased animals.
Most people love animals and there is a large number of people who love some of the animals so much that they are happily ready to share their homes with them just like a family member. Pets are kept in almost every house, and we often hear people saying that their cat or dog is an important member of their family but unfortunately these words are not translated into actions when that very pet gets an allergy. It suddenly becomes just a diseased animal. Pets don’t run away from their owners when they are caught into some kind of allergy but these are us humans who don’t even want to touch their pet when it gets an allergy. How humane is that? Pets get allergies just like human beings do and they deserve same level of medical care and attention
